The site is the fore front of the educational complex and surrounded by residential and industrial development located on the junction of VIP road and the College road opposite the Visava Garden at Nanded, Maharashtra.
The Design
A memorial involves the act of remembering. It is classically supposed to be a signifier, referring not to itself, but persons, events or deeds etc, which should be remembered or recalled in the generations to come. How does one help people recall and know about Great people? It is just through the proper presentation of the person’s great deeds and sacrifice. The memorial in order to be successful first needs to create and recreate memory maps for future generations.
The Form and Space
The dynamic, curvilinear and the bold but simple form and enclosed space reflects the personality of Late S. B. Chavan in terms of his controlled administration, all round social and political contribution, his love towards arts and literature and his futuristic approach.
Landscape
Colorful flowerbeds flank the dynamic, directional pathway. The lawn mounds proves to be eye soothing in hot dry summers & controls the heat. The rainwater flowing through valleys formed by vaults creates dramatic scenario. The diminishing fountains in front of the statue & free flowing water channels reminds the viewer about his great contribution in water management & irrigation system.
The free standing CHANDAN TREE depicts his characteristics.
The self-sufficient structure supported by rainwater harvesting system to fulfill its water requirements partly & solar system to fulfill the energy requirement, follows the ideology of Late S. B. Chavan & directs the next generation.
